Bonnie Franklin, D.V.M., MS

24098701.png.jpgDr. Franklin grew up in Santa Barbara, attending a local grammar school and high school. She received her BS in Biology from the University of San Francisco. She graduated in 1993 from Washington State University & Oregon State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, which was a joint program, and received a degree from both colleges. She obtained her Masters in Wildlife Biology from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1993. She received the `Small Animal Companionship Award’ and `Hill's Nutrition Proficiency Award’ while in veterinary college. You may remember Dr. Franklin’s weekly veterinarian question and answer column for all types of pets in the Santa Barbara News Press called `Critter’s Corner’, which ran for five years.

After graduation she worked at a local veterinarian hospital and then opened her own mobile practice. She continued this practice up until the birth of her daughter. She then closed the mobile practice and eventually began working only part-time at other hospitals in the area. After her daughter entered school, she decided to open her own practice. Over the years, Dr. Franklin has developed friendships with many of her clients and they urged her to open her own practice. So Your Pals Pet Hospital was born. It is named after Dr. Franklin’s cherished Dalmatian dog, Pal. Pal was a gift from her Mom when she was fourteen years old. Many of Dr. Franklin’s old friends remember Pal riding with Dr. Franklin in a blue VW bug on the way to the beach all through high school. He was her constant companion for seventeen years.

Dr. Franklin inspires confidence and trust from her clients. Dr. Franklin’s appointments may take longer than you are used to, but that is because she is very thorough. She is an excellent diagnostician and it is her belief that wellness examinations will provide early detection of disease. Sensible and reasonable treatments are not only cost effective for her clients, but provide the best care for her patients. This extremely well-equipped hospital along with its excellent staff provides all the tools necessary to give the superior veterinary care that Dr. Franklin is known for.

Dr. Franklin enjoys spending her spare time with her family husband, daughter, and their family. Her family also includes their dogs, birds, turtles, fish and one very large cat. They enjoy the outdoors, camping, traveling, and spending time with their friends.

She made Your Pals Pet Hospital a high tech facility and made sure that it still had the hometown feeling that she grew up with here in Santa Barbara.

Tom Thompson, D.V.M.

yourpals.net.jpgDr. Tom Thompson is a graduate of UC Davis Veterinary College. Two years after he graduated, Dr. Thompson took over Alamar Animal Hospital in Santa Barbara.  He later opened Adobe Animal Hospital on upper State Street.  He owned this hospital until he sold it in 2005.  As he sold his practice in 2005 he has worked part-time for the Santa Barbara Humane Society and D.A.W.G..  This work only emphasizes his dedication to animals in need and to the Santa Barbara Community.

He and Dr. Franklin worked together at Adobe Animal Hospital up until the birth of her daughter. You will find Dr. Thompson to be a great listener and easy to talk with as he is very personable. His years of experience and his diagnostic skills make him a wonderful veterinarian. He has a great love of surgery and thoroughly enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Thompson and his wife raised three great sons here in Santa Barbara. You might see him on the tennis courts as he is an avid sportsman.

Bill Braastad, Hospital Administrator

24099289.png.jpgMr. Braastad is the hospital administrator for Your Pals Pet Hospital. He is Dr. Bonnie Franklin’s husband and has just finished supervising the construction of this brand new facility. Mr. Braastad had a successful business in Santa Barbara for twenty-seven years which was sold allowing him the time to design and oversee the construction of Your Pals Pet Hospital. This endeavor he felt very strongly about, as he worked with his wife for several years past. Mr. Braastad contributed many details to the planning and construction of the hospital due to his familiarity with the operation of a veterinary hospital.

Now that the new hospital is completed, he will assume the tasks of the day to day operation of the business allowing Dr. Franklin to concentrate solely on the practice of veterinary medicine.

Mr. Braastad’s goal with this hospital is to provide top quality animal health care in an enjoyable environment. An environment where the clients and patients can be relaxed and enjoy their visits. He has assembled a highly trained experienced staff that truly cares about each client and patient.

With this veterinary medical equipment, our competent committed staff and Dr. Franklin’s expertise we are able to provide the best results possible for all of our patients. We have made a commitment to the Summerland, Montecito, Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Carpinteria areas to be here for a very long time and we will do our best to create long-lasting relationships with the entire community. This hospital has the newest state of the art equipment in all areas.

Mr. Braastad has made Your Pals Pet Hospital’s prices for drugs and services very competitive. Mr. Braastad says "the happy atmosphere, the high quality of care, and the fair prices will surely bring you back in to see us."
